In 1999 Smith & Wesson became the sole distributor for of the Walther Brand of firearms. Walther has produced high quality hunting and target rifles in the past and now is the maker of high quality has guns. The P-38 and the PPK to name a few of the famous models loved by police, armies and civilians for years. Walthers new P-99 series of pistols has proven it self on range, battlefield and duty for years.
New offering are the P-22 series of .22 LR pistol and its rifle counter part the G-22. The PSS slim frame pistol is new in 2008, and also the SP22 sporting pistol. Walther was acquired by the Umarex firm in 1993. Umarex is a large manufacturer of air-rifles and police products, located in Arnsberg, Germany.
Carl Walther Gmgh Sportwaffen or Walther USA has made firearms for over 100 years. Founded 1886 in Zella-Mehlis, Thuringia; after the factory was destroyed in WWII, the new corporation was founded in Ulm, Germany.
