Great Carry Pistol
by: smittz
First off, I love my PPK as a carry piece. I had the chance to ‘test drive’ many guns (Glock’s, SIG’s, 1911’s) but this was the best concealed carry pistol for my needs. I carry it everywhere my CCW allows me and my closest of friends and family don’t even know if I am carrying or not. The size is perfect for concealed carry, the .380 is a good round and easy to find, when used properly it is a very accurate weapon, and it’s a sexy looking pistol. For a little extra grip and better feel I put on Pachmayr Grips (highly recommended). Defensive load: I recommend Hydra-Shock JHP. I usually holster it with a real simple and inexpensive “Gun Mate” IWB holster that with either an un-tucked shirt or tucked in shirt slightly bloused to prevent printing I’m the only one that knows it’s there (even with the black metal clip sticking out). Contrary to what some critics say, the weight on it is not really that bad. I’d rather have an extra pound because it’s made of quality materials than a light-weight junk gun. Plus, no matter what gun you buy, you will ALWAYS know you are carrying a gun. It is suppose to be comforting, not comfortable.
The people that say the PPK/S has a high rate of failure say that because they don't know anything about the pistol. It does need to be broken in like any other machine. Out of the factory the machining on the gun is VERY tight and for good reason. It's a precision weapon. You will want to take the gun to the range and put 200-300 rounds through it to loosen it up BEFORE you carry it for defense. It will probably jam brand new, clear or fix the jam, continue firing, and just keep working the gun. If after that initial break in you still have trouble, contact your dealer because S&W puts a LIFETIME warranty on the PPK. I actually had to take mine in after 150 rounds because the hammer spring was catching and it wasn’t hitting the firing pin fast enough. The turn around time was very quick (a few weeks) and there was no cost, not even shipping. Another 200 round break in after I got it back from the factory, and it doesn’t miss a beat and I go to the range about 1 hour every month. (Get asked about the gun every time I go to too.)
There are two common problems that some people have with their New PPK:
-Problem feeding new round into the chamber or jamming: Either not enough break in or they do need the free warranty work. The factory will simply polishes the ramp because by design it is very steep and the slide may be encountering too much friction driving the new round into the chamber.
-Tight safety lever – Again, if after thorough break in you still have a really tight safety lever sent it in and S&W will polish the cylinder for free.
**One more very important word of caution: Be sure to use proper hand placement when firing the gun (if you don’t know what I mean, ask a professional at the range) because the slide on the PPK moves VERY FAST and is incredible sharp and will leave these nice “train tracks” on your hand or thumb that may cut deep enough to require stitches if you don’t grip it properly. I have not had this problem myself but an uncle of mine did get bit when shooting my dad’s PPK and I have read other online stories.
It is a great gun though. Respect it. Practice with it often. Break it in well. And remember if you’re having trouble with it, you have a free lifetime warranty. Hope this helps.

380 PPK/S
by: Styles1
Recent purchase of S&W 380 PPK/S. Less than 250 rounds with jams, reject problems and the hammer now stuck/jammed all the way back.
I would not utilize or rely upon this pistol after the experiences I've encountered with this pistol new out of the box... Would not recommend anyone purchasing a S&W 380.

Walther PPK/S 380 ACP
by: Rebellogic
As an owner of multiple large frame revolvers and pistols, I needed a smaller handgun for concealed carry purposes. I purchased my Walther PPK/S at a recent gun show for $475. I've been to the gun range and out in the backwoods at least 10 times and fired at least 500 hundred rounds and have had no problems at all with my Walther. I very happy with my Walther and will continue to use it as my primary CC weapon. As stated above I own several revolvers made by S&W and have always been satisfied with the quality of their products. S&W is licensed to produce Walther PPK's in the U.S.A., that's one of the reasons I purchased mine. Of course I haven't fired 700 rounds yet and my decock/safety still works fine. I pray I don't have the problems others have had especially since I counting on this gun for personal defense. I'll be spending plenty of time at the range and if I have any problems I be sure to update my review.

Aesthetic gun, snappy for power level, not something I would bet my life on. Fun to shoot at the range and try out a historic gun but not reliable and underpowered compared to other guns today of similar size.

PPK & PPK/S
by: USMC Ret.
Most complaints seen are from new weapons. Failures most often are from not doing a complete breakdown and cleaning and lubricating before use.
If a complete clean and lube job is done these symptoms rarely occur. I have had 4 of these (just used up my 2 older ones)after thousands of rounds yearly over 15 years. I never have had problems, after using this clean, lube and polish procedure when new or before heavy use.
The polishing of the feed ramp with 400 or 600 then 1200 grit wet or dry "Black" paper and water will give amazing results if done and lubed with light grease before fully broken in. After that a light feed ramp lube every 200 rounds or so will keep it from jams and feed problems 99.999 percent of the time, don't forget to lube magazines.
I do bet my life on it. It's also a part of my wardrobe and so is my wifes she carries one as well.
I also recommend this weapon to anyone or friends if the subject come up. Sure you can get a Glock cheap the police trade them about every two years or so.
Other brands or models are out there but for concealed carry and protection the PPK - PPK/S cant be beat for its size and purpose in my opinion. Another plus is they are loads of fun for plinking.

by: Dave USMC
First time out 5-6-08 made it through 1 mag without a prob. To make a long story short=JAMS,DOUBLE FEEDS,STOVE PIPES FAILER TO EJECT,DECOCKER BROKE ect. See where im going with this? Called S.W. There getting it back.I realy dont want that S.O.B back. They can send me one of there 908s in its place and mabey that would not selfdestruct like the $600 ppk did.Im just sick about the whole thing.

Walther PPK by Smith & Wesson

I like the the PPK by Smith & Wesson. I've never been bit by the slide and it pumps rounds without flaw as fast as I can pull the trigger. I polished the feed ramp with some 400 grit paper and it just performs really well. It's accurate and safe to carry.

Walther PPK/S made by S&W
by: Navy Man
I have had a PPK/S in .32 ACP for about a month. Only 150 rounds have gone thru it, but it has functioned perfectly and is extremely accurate for a small semi auto.
Many years ago Guns and Ammo had a special edition devoted to pocket pistols. The article on ammo concluded that .32 fed more reliably and was more accurate than .380.
Use a little grease on the slide/frame rails and I'll bet your functioning problems go away.

S&W PPK/S 380
by: 173rd Airborne
This handgun is junk, like those who wrote above, it jams and the spring disappeared with the first round. To all Airborne Troopers who are thinking about buying this gun Do Not Dissappoint Yourself!
Smith & Wesson should recall this handgun and fix the problems with it!

Walther ppk/s (Smith & Wesson)
by: Daben
Like Robbie before me, my safety/decock failed at a shooting range. My gun hasn't had 200 rounds fired through it. The safety detent spring and empty shell ejector had simply dissappeared. I have been waiting for the replacement parts for almost a month. In an emergency, grab your revolver, then you'll be assured of more than 1 shot. Also this is very embarassing at a busy shooting range.

This gun is useless. It constantly breaks and is unreliable.

Walther ppk/s made by Smith & Wesson
by: robbie
The fit and finish are not up to par for a pistol that costs over $500. After about 700 rounds, the decock/safety failed during a range session. I returned it to Smith & Wesson , who kept it for 3 weeks and replaced the hammer. A piece of advice; If you want a small semi auto pocket gun for about the same price, buy a Glock 26. Glocks are very reliable. This Walther made by S&W is not reliable enough to bet your life on.
