SP22-M1
|
By Mike On 01/24/2009
I received the M1 as a Christmas gift. I hurriedly shot some empty soda cans in the back yard and immediately noticed that the trigger was much less than pleasing. I took it squirrel hunting a few days later and shot the only one I saw. It took several shots, but the subsonic hollowpoints didn't frighten the squirrel enough to leave. It's difficult to say what accuracy potential this gun has because I'll have to inject my index finger with steroids and become familiar with the seemingly unpredictable time when to expect it to fire. I too hope some aftermarket miracle becomes available to make it a more useful small game pistol.

Walther SP22 M4

As mentioned in the previous reviews, the trigger sucks. My M4 is a very light and accurate gun, but the amount of trigger pull required to fire the pistol is ridiculous. The SP22 manual is really just a collection of legal disclaimers, and doesn't provide any useful information concerning routine cleaning or trigger adjustments. I don't know which gun is pictured within the manual, but it's not an M4. I'm hoping that I can drop an after market trigger in this thing, because I can't live with the so called "match" trigger supplied with the gun.

This pistol does have alot of potential but there is several things that I feel should be corrected. The trigger is absolutley horrible and the manual doesn't show pictures that match the firearm. If you adjust the takeup screw to remove the ton of creep in the trigger, it will not allow the safety to function! The sear engagement adjustment seems to show no difference in trigger pull weight, according to my scale. Not having takeup adjustment, the other way to limit overall trigger movement would be to adjust overtravel. This does not work even though the sear adjustment is inside it, the trigger will just not function. Feeding seems to be difficult for the M3 also, this could parcially be because the antidrop mechanism for the mag shoves it offcenter in the frame. Such a high-end .22 pistol should at least cycle and feed flawlessly, so much for german engineering! The bad thing is after the pistol fell apart while shooting it at the range, it only took about an hour for a bunch of non-engineers to solve most of the shortfalls of this pistol. This is a bad design that was not well thought out and very cheaply manufactured for the money it costs. The cool look is all this pistol has out of the box, but with some american enginuity it can be made to function reliably. Accuracy is a joke and my ruger MK III 22/45 shoots rings around the SP and for less money! But it looks neat! Unless you like tinkering and making stuff work, SAVE YOUR MONEY LOOKS ARE NOT EVERYTHING!
